• What specifically is the new policy?

  The Coast Community College Administrative Procedure (AP) 3570 states, "Smoking and tobacco use are prohibited on all 91Å®Éñ property, including in all buildings, student housing, exterior open spaces, parking lots, on-campus sidewalks, stadiums, recreational spaces, and practice facilities. Smoking and tobacco use are prohibited in all District-owned or leased vehicles."

  "Smoking is the heating, burning, or vaporizing of any material to be inhaled. This includes, but is not limited to, cigarettes, electronic cigarettes (vaping), cigars, hookahs, and pipes. Tobacco use includes the use of any tobacco or tobacco-like product, chewing tobacco, or tobacco substitute such as vaping liquids."

• Who does this policy apply to?

  The policy applies to everyone who comes onto the 91Å®Éñ campus: students, employees, and any visitors.

• Does this include smoking marijuana?

  Yes. In accordance with BP 3550 and AP 3550 Drug-Free Environment and Drug Prevention Program, smoking and vaping of marijuana are prohibited at all District and College sites and facilities, including outdoor areas and parking lots, and in all District-owned or leased vehicles.

• Can I smoke in student housing?

  No, student housing is on district property and therefore is governed by the CCCD policy.

• Can I smoke in my car?

  No, a vehicle parked on an 91Å®Éñ parking lot is still on district property and must be moved off-campus if you want to smoke within the vehicle.

• Are there places I can smoke/vape?

  Smoking is allowed on public spaces off-campus, for example, the public sidewalks.

• Tell me more about cessation support

  The Student Health Center's tobacco cessation program will help individuals in their quitting smoking or vaping. Participants can choose among seminars, classes, or individual counseling facilitated by our Tobacco Cessation Specialist.
